About Friendship House Women’s Lodge
Friendship House Women's Lodge is a residential drug and alcohol treatment program in Oakland, California. It's for pregnant women and mothers of children ages 0 to 5.
The rehab offers six months of residential rehab and then they have an extended reentry phase. They incorporate counseling, assessments and medication for addiction treatment.
What sets it apart is a mother and child model that's built inside a Native centered healing environment.
A Rehab for Mothers with Children
At Friendship House Women's Lodge, children from birth through age five live on site with their mothers throughout treatment. Residential beds are set aside for the children and there's on site supervision for them during treatment hours.
During treatment you'll still be the primary caregiver for your kids so bonding and parenting continue rather than pause. The program says it's the only drug and alcohol rehab program in the country where pregnant women and mothers of children ages 0 to 5 can stay and heal together with their children.
This resolves a decision so many moms face, choosing between recovery or custody of their children. They have shared rooms are shared which may hold up to four people.
Native Led Recovery and Ceremony
Friendship House is run by a Native nonprofit that incorporates sweat lodge ceremony, talking circles and traditional medicines. They combine these traditions with therapies like motivational interviewing and the Matrix Model.
The program is designed mostly for American Indian and Alaska Native communities but it doesn't discriminate on any basis. One graduate specifically praises the spirituality, ceremony sessions and sweat lodge practices in this program.
The program serves the Oakland and San Francisco area. For affordability they work with government and IHS Tribal funding. They also accept Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance.
Self payment is welcome too and they'll help you set a payment structure during intake.
