About It Takes a Village
It Takes a Village is an Aurora based nonprofit organization providing free outpatient addiction counseling, mental health support and HIV focused community services across the Denver metropolitan area.
The organization offers counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, relapse prevention and trauma informed care for adults navigating substance use and co-occurring conditions.
Rooted in cultural humility and community connection, It Takes a Village works to reduce health and social disparities by meeting people where they are with dignity, accessibility and wraparound care.
Community Based Addiction Counseling
The organization's core specialty is outpatient addiction counseling tailored to people of color and individuals living with HIV in the Denver metro area.
Recurring weekday groups, 24 hour on call counseling access and aftercare support help clients build stability and stay engaged in recovery.
Sessions may incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, 12 step facilitation and relapse prevention strategies, alongside trauma related counseling for co-occurring concerns.
Naloxone education, peer support and discharge planning round out a model designed to address both the roots of substance use and the day to day realities of recovery.
Culturally Specific Care
It Takes a Village offers specialized programming for African American same gender loving men, transgender women of color, Latinx gay men, African American women and people affected by incarceration.
Practical supports like meals, a computer lab and a clothing closet, medical case management and PTSD groups make the space feel like a true home away from home.
