About Anasazi Foundation
If you haven’t heard of Anasazi Foundation in Mesa, Arizona yet, let me tell you, it’s not your typical treatment center. This facility combines nature, therapy and heart in a meaningful way. For over 35 years, they’ve helped teens and young adults find their footing again by reconnecting with themselves through wilderness living. It's not about punishment or boot camp vibes here. It’s all about healing, choice and walking forward.
Healing in the Heart of Nature
At Anasazi, the wilderness isn’t just a setting, it’s a therapist. Participants are called Young Walker and they live simply and intentionally out on the Arizona trails. We’re talking about primitive living with almost no distractions, which lets them reflect deeply and build real-life skills.
The teenage and young adult clients cook their own meals, build their own shelters and hike daily. Along the way, trained staff called Shadows walk with them. The guide is not in front or behind them but right beside them, helping them work through depression, defiance, internet addiction, substance use, anxiety and more.
What makes Anasazi Foundation stand out is that it doesn’t force change. Instead, it creates this kind of peaceful and supportive environment where a change of heart can naturally happen. Teens and adults get a minimum of 49 days to unplug, slow down and start again with new insight and hope.
Support for the Whole Family
Anasazi Foundation doesn’t just work with the person attending their healing sessions. They bring the whole family into the healing process. Parents are involved from day one and even get the chance to join their child on the trail at the end of the program.
They offer workshops, weekly therapy check-ins and seven weeks of parent support after the program ends. Families aren’t just handed back a different teen or adult, they’re given tools to walk forward together.
Plus, they also offer scholarships and accept new admissions every day.
