About The Texas House

The Texas House located in Houston, Texas, is a nonprofit residential treatment center for men struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Texas House opened its doors in 1965 through the Texas Alcoholism Foundation, and it has continually provided a unique year long recovery program. It is not just a rehab clinic but rather a commitment to a profoundly client centered philosophy that places the focus not on the addiction but on treating the person as a whole.

The Texas House is also an accessibility champion, partnering with Work Quest to ensure adult men without insurance or funding can access their transformative, long term residential care, advancing genuine recovery for more Houstonians.

Supportive Community Environment

When you enter The Texas House it is easy to see that this is a healing community of peers with similar struggles. Residents live in the same house and “work on powerful friendships” which fosters understanding and collective responsibility. The facility offers private fully furnished rooms which are personal retreats within the shared space.

The program integrates the tried and true 12 Step model with therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), individual therapy, family therapy and group therapy. With this method each man is supported in overcoming the true problems related to addiction, not merely the superficial symptoms.

Long-Term Care for Men

The Texas House is distinguished by its commitment to a full year of residential treatment. This lengthy period is vital because it accommodates the depth and duration required for transformational, enduring change.

Their dedication does not lapse with discharge as they provide robust two year aftercare. This prolonged support enables men to gradually reintegrate into daily life, significantly enhancing the odds of long term sobriety.
