Consumer Family Learning Center

Consumer Family Learning Center is a peer run recovery community center in Bakersfield, California supporting adults affected by mental illness and substance use. Operated by Kern County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, the center offers support groups, enrichment classes and social activities led by people with their own lived recovery experiences. This is not a clinical treatment program, but a safe community space where members can build friendships, learn about their conditions and explore personal interests.

What support is offered?

The center provides peer led support groups, enrichment classes, arts and crafts programs and community outings. All services are delivered by individuals who have experienced their own recovery journeys from mental health or substance use challenges. The focus is on community building, shared learning and long term wellness.

Consumer Family Learning Center serves adults eighteen years and older whose lives have been affected by mental illness or substance use as well as family members impacted by a loved one's behavioral health challenges. Services are peer based and open to anyone seeking community connection and support in recovery.

Where is the center located?

The main location is at 2001 28th Street in Bakersfield's Riviera Westchester area, with additional centers in Tehachapi and Ridgecrest. The center is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Services are funded by the Mental Health Services Act through Kern County Behavioral Health and appear to be offered at no cost to participants.
