Positive Steps Mens Residential Treatment

Positive Steps is a 47-bed residential addiction treatment program for men in Downey. They're operated by Southern California Alcohol and Drug Programs.

A History of Service

SCADP was founded in 1972 by community members looking for alternatives to prison for people with substance use disorders. That history still shapes what Positive Steps is.

It's on a mission to serve men who often struggle to find a covered bed anywhere else in southeast Los Angeles County.

A Men's Residential Program Offering Specialized Care

Positive Steps has operated men's residential program since 1994 and the gender-specific programming matters more here than it might at a larger facility.

The program primarily serves residents of southeast Los Angeles.

They primarily serve historically underserved communities. This includes homeless men, men with long criminal histories and men with or at high risk for HIV/AIDS.

Treatment runs on a 90-day model based on a full American Society of Addiction Medicine assessment, and includes education and counseling groups, individual counseling with substance abuse specialists or therapists, case management, transportation and random drug screening.

Men must have completed detox before admission. Mental health services on site are limited, so anyone with significant psychiatric needs should raise that during intake.

Part of a Larger Network, Not a Standalone Facility

Positive Steps is a part of SCADP's larger continuum of care that includes outpatient and court-ordered programming.

A client whose recovery involves more than one level of care can move within one organization rather than starting over at each step.

Payment and Admission

Positive Steps is a certified Drug Medi-Cal provider and a member of the Los Angeles County Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System.

Services are provided free of cost to Medi-Cal and My Health LA beneficiaries who meet medical necessity.

Staff will assist you in enrolling in those programs. The program is licensed and certified by the California Department of Health Care Services.
