About Johnson County Mental Health Center Adult Detoxification Unit
The Johnson County Adult Detoxification Unit (ADU) is a specialty facility designed to help people struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) to achieve sobriety. It’s located in Shawnee, Kansas. This program is also linked with the crisis intervention services provided by Johnson County. This eight bed unit is a short term solution designed to help people safely wean themselves off of substances with the help of attentive care.
An Open Door Policy
A nice feature of Johnson County’s ADU is that it accepts admissions 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, even though this is an inpatient treatment option, it’s not a medical facility. So if interventions are necessary, understand that the staff may refer you to another provider to get the kind of care you need.
Still, when you’re admitted to ADU, you’ll receive regular monitoring to ensure that your detox is occurring in a safe manner. As you work through the detox process, your case manager will work with you to provide referrals to mental health services to help you gain the tools you need to maintain your new found sobriety. This can include direct referrals to service providers as well as information about community resources for recovery support groups like AA and NA.
A Quiet and Intimate Detox Center
While the ADU is a smaller facility, you can expect to have a semi private room with a bathroom. You’ll also have meals, bedding, and towels provided during your stay. To be admitted to the ADU, you must be at least 18 years of age. Although you may have recently used substances, you do need to be medically stable and not actively in a mental health crisis.
