Heroes' Mile in DeLand, Florida was specifically made for veterans and first responders. It is more than a treatment center and it does not come off as just another facility but rather a true refuge. The staff plays a huge role in this because many of them are veterans themselves who offer an astounding level of compassion and understanding. They can help with the many ways your service can affect substance use including military sexual trauma (MST), combat trauma, or other service-related psychological difficulties and chronic pain.

A Rural Oasis of Healing in Deland with Outdoor Therapies

The facility design is not only peaceful and beautiful but it seamlessly integrates with the patients’ treatment. Located in the center of ten acres of quiet, pristine wilderness, this rehab has a feeling of isolation and peace. There are true private rooms for modesty, spacious outdoor seating areas, private ponds, basketball courts and even volleyball courts.

Patients are able to process emotions through interactions with horses in what is termed as equine therapy, and complex emotions can also be expressed through art in art therapy. The combination of these methods with traditional therapy creates a distinctive path to recovery.

Programs for Veteran Care

Heroes' Mile takes great pride in providing trauma informed specialized care for veterans. They apply eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) to deal with service related trauma. Their programs incorporate the “for Veterans by Veterans” philosophy, which means that their services are provided by fellow veterans and built around the realities of military life such as re-integration and finding meaning after service.

They also offer employable skills and essential work readiness training through collaborations with community partners. From medical detox to residential care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs, the entire continuum of care helps veterans receive dedicated, compassionate care throughout their journey.
