Alternatives in Behavioral Health

Alternatives in Behavioral Health (ABH) in Largo, Florida offers outpatient intensive care programs (IOP) for substance use. A reduced fee is available for clients who are eligible. They are licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families and are accredited by CARF.
You will be required to undergo an assessment to determine the level of care you need. After your assessment you will be notified of your treatment plan.

Individual IOP for Substance Use

It may be determined that you only need individual counseling. If so, you will meet with your therapist for one hour per week. This can be scheduled around your work or school hours.

You will receive counseling for substance use and any co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and compulsive addictive disorders. ABH IOPs are licensed by the state of Florida for dual diagnosis treatment.

Group IOP Types

If you are assessed to require group therapy, you will attend three hours for three days per week. Each week will introduce a new integrity trait. You will not strive for perfection but will reach toward what you can become and positive behaviors. Several group types are available.

The process group allows for discussion about problems and how to manage them. The weekly goal group will inform you of the required weekly goals for the IOP program. Based on your treatment plan, you will participate in cognitive behavioral goal setting.

In the family systems group you will determine your role in your family and discuss familial issues. The relapse prevention group uses the
Matrix model to study your relationships, feelings, recovery challenges, coping skills, and other topics.

In the body/mind connection group you will learn about physical withdrawals, medications, and the psychology of the brain. You will also practice relaxation and stress management through creative therapy.

The addiction cycle group addresses cravings and triggers. The interpersonal development group will help you set boundaries and discover your personal strengths.
