About Wedgwood Christian Services
Wedgwood Christian Services is a nonprofit addiction treatment center in Grand Rapids. Residential substance use care here is for adolescents, while outpatient therapy and intensive outpatient care also accept adults.
Grand Rapids Care by Age
Wedgwood's residential program works with adolescents ages 10 to 17, male and female when symptoms are severe.
The adolescent program also treats substance use with a co-occurring mental health diagnosis (a second condition at the same time). You live on campus during treatment where you can focus on recovery.
Lighthouse Academy is included and teaches residential youth. The team understand that a teen in care is still a student.
Residential clients get a psychiatric evaluation on site if indicated.
Outpatient therapy is typically once a week for substance use or mental health, and it starts at age 5. The intensive outpatient program works to stabilize and build motivation for sobriety.

Wedgwood offers substance use services for people in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon and Allegan counties in Michigan. You can use telehealth for counseling instead of driving in which provides more convenience.
Women and family specialty services run in Muskegon only, not on this campus.

What levels of care does Wedgwood Christian Services offer?
Residential substance use services, a form of inpatient rehab, are for adolescents with severe symptoms who need a stable setting. Which approaches does substance use treatment draw on?
Cognitive behavioral therapy is used with motivational enhancement counseling and solution-focused techniques. Other addiction therapy options include motivational interviewing, dialectal behavior therapy, trauma focused behavioral therapy, Seeking Safety and the Adolescent Community Reenforcement Approach. Relationship Trauma Repair and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy may also be incorporated into treatment.
Who can receive substance use care through Wedgwood?
Adolescents and adults can receive substance use care. Counseling Services are for children from age 5, along with adolescents and adults. The Specialized Residential Treatment program takes adolescents of either sex, from age 10 through 17. Everyone in that program has a substance use disorder. A co-occurring mental health diagnosis may be present as well.
How does payment differ between counseling and residential care?
Most insurance is accepted, including Medicare and Medicaid, as insurance coverage for rehab. Residential Care is different. In general, insurance doesn’t pay for that residential treatment, and referrals come through a funding agency such as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services or juvenile courts.
Where can you attend, and is any of it remote?
Substance use treatment is available in four West Michigan counties: Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon and Allegan. Telehealth is an option. Each Residential Care home has a recreation and activity therapist, with life-skills classes, expressive arts, sports, exercise and animal therapy.
