Saint Barnabas Hospital Methadone Treatment

You'll find SBH’s Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program (MMTP) situated on the St. Barnabas Hospital campus. SBH has provided health care to adults and families in the Bronx for over 160 years. It's based in the Bronx in New York.

Methadone Treatment Program

The program offers medication, counseling, and education. Medications prescribed include methadone, Suboxone, and Vivitrol. Clients have private individual sessions with their therapists as well as counseling in a group of peers.

When we use substances we are harming our bodies and minds. The program teaches harm reduction and offers trauma informed care. Special workshops available for clients include Living Without Drugs and Healthy Eating.

Inpatient and Outpatient Detoxification

The campus offers inpatient detox services for those who need to withdraw before beginning the program. Detoxification is offered for those addicted to any substance.

During the period of detox you’ll be tested and educated on HIV/AIDS. You will also participate in substance abuse counseling and recreational groups. An outpatient detox center on campus serves clients who can detox safely without constant supervision.

Those who need inpatient treatment are admitted to the department of psychiatry. This care is provided by a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, primary nurse, and activity therapist.

Clients are evaluated by a psychiatrist who may prescribe medications. You’ll also be treated for any medical ailments.

General Substance Use Outpatient Treatment

The addiction medicine department on campus treats substance use disorder. Pharmacological treatment is available for substance users when needed.

The outpatient alcohol and substance abuse department offers services for self referred, court referred, and ACS mandated clients. Client groups and family groups receive counseling on different topics that vary based on client needs. Topics include parenting, domestic violence, smoking cessation, and stress and anger management.

One advantage of outpatient care is that you can explore the area. The Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Gardens are a few blocks away. Crotona Park is just to the south. You can explore new interests and exercise your body and mind.
