About MUSC Health Institute of Psychiatry
MUSC Health Institute of Psychiatry is a behavioral health facility in downtown Charleston, South Carolina offering comprehensive psychiatric and addiction services for adults.
Through its Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs the Institute treats alcohol and substance use disorders using cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, twelve step facilitation and medication management including care for co-occurring mood and anxiety disorders.
As part of a major academic medical center, the Institute combines evidence based treatment with access to the full continuum of behavioral health and medical resources.
Comprehensive Addiction Treatment
CDAP offers intensive outpatient and standard outpatient addiction programs for adults who have completed detox or do not require hospitalization.
Services include recovery skills education, individual and group therapy, psychoeducation, aftercare planning and relapse prevention support, available in person or virtually.
The program also operates a Buprenorphine Maintenance Clinic for opioid dependence, pairing medical management with group psychotherapy. Clinical tools like urine drug screening and biomarker testing support accountability, and eligible patients may participate in addiction related research.
Specialized Care
CDAP offers a dedicated addiction rehab track for legal and medical professionals, providing confidential evaluations and coordinated treatment with licensing boards and professional associations. This specialty service addresses the unique clinical and career considerations these patients face while maintaining privacy throughout the recovery process.

CDAP accepts private health insurance and self pay for addiction treatment.
