About Haymarket Center McDermott Center Central Intake
Haymarket Center Central Intake is the admissions and assessment hub for substance use treatment in Chicago, Illinois. This nonprofit center offers 24/7/365 access to assessment and placement services that connect adults to detoxification, residential treatment, intensive outpatient and outpatient programs, alongside integrated mental health and primary care. Clients and partners value the structured intake process and the emphasis on whole-person care without financial barriers.
Finding the Right Care Level
Central Intake uses the Global Assessment of Individual Need (GAIN) and ASAM criteria to recommend the right level of care. This direct service may include medically monitored detox on 16-bed units with 24-hour physician and nurse support, residential programs, intensive outpatient and outpatient counseling. The center also integrates primary care within the same system.
Addressing Dual Diagnosis Concerns
Haymarket Center serves adults struggling with substance use disorders, including co-occurring mental health concerns. Admission preference is given to postpartum women, people living with HIV, veterans and service members and their families, and parenting individuals who use substances.
The admissions office is in the Near West Side neighborhood with accessible public transit and community resources nearby which may remove additional treatment barriers.
