About Oasis Youth Shelter
The Oasis Youth Shelter of Lutheran Family Services in Fort Myers, Florida, is a temporary live-in shelter for youth ages 10 to 17. Living on the streets is dangerous and puts youth at risk for serious substance use disorders and other dangers.
The goal of the shelter is to reunite youth with their families when legally approved. The shelter has a 98% rate of successfully reuniting these families.
Youth Substance Use Counseling and Treatment
Troubled youth who are substance users or have other problems will receive guidance through the Behavioral Management Program and group counseling. Families will be involved in the treatment through family counseling and other support services.
When your loved one first arrives at the shelter they will be asked some questions as part of a screening process. If it is decided during screening that the youth client needs residential substance use treatment, they will be referred to a local facility.
The counselor will work with the client and their family to understand why they ran away. Once the underlying problem is discovered, an agreement will be drawn up by the youth client, the counselor, and the family that specifies what must be done to be able to return home.
Providing Comfort Throughout the Process
Oasis will provide youth clients with hygiene products and a bed with sheets and a blanket. They will also receive three meals per day.
Case managers will refer your loved one to community resources such as mental health services, primary care or mentoring programs. After reunification with the family, the center will check with the client to ensure the transition back home is going smoothly. The shelter is just a few minutes away from Downtown Fort Myers.
