At Doris Miller VA Center the primary goal is to offer quality medical services that have a direct impact on patients' lives. They have streamlined access to the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTPs). This program is for veterans with service disabilities that require intense therapeutic rehabilitation. The hospital also has outpatient and inpatient programs for substance abuse including opioid and alcohol dependency. Additionally, the center has a 40-bed psychosocial rehabilitation unit and a women’s acute psychiatric ward.
The range of treatment offered includes individual, family and group psychotherapy. Clinicians use multidisciplinary approaches that can address co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Specialized Programs
The Center offers unique services such as the Blind Rehabilitation Unit. There are only 12 of these in the nation. This unit offers advanced training for independent living skills post vision loss.
For women veterans, the Women Recover in Supportive Environment residential program (WRISE) is a recovery accelerator. This program was recently enhanced with a new exercise room.
Integrated Aftercare
Aftercare is also part of their treatment for chemical dependency and includes detailed relapse prevention and access to Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) and Narcotic Anonymous (NA). Veterans are not only treated but, when leaving, are ensured comprehensive support for well-being and reintegration into society.
