The Addiction Recovery Institute (ARI) is an outpatient substance use disorder (SUD) clinic with two locations in Rhode Island, including this facility in Warwick. The clinic offers medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients 18 and older with an opiate addiction. They offer substance use counseling for any type of substance use disorder.
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Model in Warwick
The treatment facility uses a MAT model for opioid use disorder. The medications they use include methadone and buprenorphine. As you’re taking the medication, you’ll participate in counseling which will help you understand the cause of your addiction and learn ways to prevent yourself from relapsing. Clients who wish to begin treatment must abstain from opioids for up to 24 hours.
A Whole Person Approach to Addiction Treatment
The philosophy at ARI is that each client should receive treatment in the least restrictive level of care possible. If your treatment is voluntary, you and a licensed counselor will discuss the length of treatment and options and decide on a plan together. If treatment is mandatory, such as court mandated treatment, the counselor will determine the duration.
Most people are evaluated or assessed for 6-12 weeks during group and individual counseling. You may be subject to toxicology screens as well. Mandated clients may have to start the program from the beginning if they miss sessions or have a positive toxicology screen.
Patients must have consistent periods of abstinence so the counselor can determine whether there are co-occurring mental health disorders being hidden with substance use. Many mandated clients continue outpatient counseling after the assigned time to ensure a successful recovery. This is recommended for most individuals who are responding well to outpatient therapy and treatment.
