Women seeking addiction treatment in Reno will soon have far more options. The Empowerment Center, a Northern Nevada nonprofit, is opening an 83-bed Women’s Treatment Center that more than doubles its current capacity and expands affordable care across the region.
Nevada already features a wide range of inpatient and outpatient programs befitting anyone who has a substance use disorder. Now, The Silver State has a stronger position to assist dozens of women at a time who may have fallen through the cracks.
A Major Expansion for Northern Nevada
The Empowerment Center currently offers 36 beds for women. After a ribbon-cutting held in summer 2026, its new facility will have 83 additional beds and a wider range of services. Executive Director Roxanne DeCarlo announced that the center reflects what happens when a community comes together around a shared purpose.
The nonprofit’s signature program runs five months and includes wrap-around and aftercare services that address substance use and co-occurring disorders. The focus is on helping women build healthier routines and reconnect with their families.
The New Facility’s Offerings
The expanded center broadens the levels of care available in one place. Empowerment’s new services include residential treatment and recovery, social model detox, mental health stabilization and intensive outpatient care. The building also has space for workforce development and counseling, plus amenities like a commercial kitchen and fitness center, outdoor areas and semi-private, two-bed living suites.
Having detox, residential care, and outpatient services under one roof matters for continuity. Eligible clients may also participate in programs to treat co-occurring disorders, such as compulsive gambling. Women can move between levels of care as their needs change, without starting over at a new provider.
The Larger Picture of Women’s Addiction Treatment
Addiction affects women differently than men, and gender-specific programs are designed with that in mind. Many women entering treatment are also managing trauma, parenting responsibilities, or a mental health condition like depression alongside substance use. That’s why co-occurring care is central to this model.
