About Teen Challenge of the Dakotas
Teen Challenge of the Dakotas is a center that provides a faith-based treatment program for those struggling with alcohol or drug addictions. Located on the western outskirts of Brookings, South Dakota, this campus is a part of the broader network of Adult & Teen Challenge facilities that can be found throughout the United States. Their aim is to help men aged 18 and older overcome behaviors that control their lives by providing a treatment program and safe environment for recovery, all guided by Biblical principles.
Attentive, Personal Care
Their program is a long-term residential program that aims to build up the man as a whole, rather than focus only on dysfunctional behaviors. Over 14 months, program counselors will take the extra time to get to know each resident on a much deeper level, allowing them to work with, instruct, and guide them from a personal perspective.
In the first eight months of the program, the men engage in personal studies, group studies and work training. Teen Challenge uses these components of their program to develop a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and resilience in each man. Throughout this time, participants also get individual mentoring to help them address the deep problems that may underpin addictive or criminal behaviors (for example, trauma or a deep sense of hopelessness).
Helping Men Find a Purpose and a Passion
In the last six month phase of the program, they shift from a focus on character and behaviors to a focus on the practical side of having a purpose. They help those without GED’s obtain their diploma, and they help everyone find full-time employment. They also provide a framework and advice for maintaining good personal finances.
