Tallgrass Recovery

Tallgrass Recovery is a drug and alcohol rehab in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They admit men and women 18 and over, provided they are medically stable.

Staff members are people in recovery, and over 80 percent of services come from volunteers in the community.

Residential Care in Sioux Falls

Tallgrass offers 30 nights of residential care on site. You remain at the center rather than going home each evening.

Days there follow 12-Step recovery (meetings, a sponsor and a written set of steps). The steps are worked with other people who understand your challenges. Each guest has a volunteer mentor who's also in 12-Step recovery.

After that stay, a resident can move into one of three sober living homes in Sioux Falls. Two of the homes are for men and one is for women. Support from the alumni community continues after leaving the homes.

Medical detox isn't offered at the center. They refer people who need this service to a detox partner before admission. Conditions such as depression, anxiety and trauma aren't treated in the house either.

You pay out of pocket, since private insurance isn't accepted. It's a South Dakota nonprofit that has been in Sioux Falls since 2006.
