About Shields for Families – Genesis Family Day Treatment Program
SHIELDS for Families Genesis Family Day Treatment Program is a South Los Angeles substance use disorder program serving adult parenting women and their children.
The program offers services in English and Spanish supporting mothers with short- to moderate-term histories of substance use, including those navigating co-occurring mental health concerns and trauma.
Genesis takes a family-centered approach, treating recovery as something that thrives when mothers, children and the surrounding community are supported together.
Family-Centered Addiction Treatment
Genesis specializes in outpatient and intensive outpatient care for parenting women with children ages 0 to 18.
As one of SHIELDS' original programs, it has decades of experience serving high-risk families in South Los Angeles with culturally responsive substance use treatment.
Sessions may include various counseling formats, addiction education, relapse-prevention planning, parenting classes and life-skills training, with approaches such as CBT and motivational interviewing.
Treatment addresses both substance use and the underlying stressors that affect parenting and family stability.
Support for Mothers and Children
Beyond clinical care, Genesis clients can access SHIELDS' broader ecosystem of services, including housing, transportation, legal aid, food and educational and vocational support.
Children of enrolled mothers may participate in SHIELDS programs such as the Child Development Center or Heros and Sheros, reinforcing recovery as a whole-family effort.
