Queens Village Committee for Mental Health for JCAP

Queens Village Committee for Mental Health for J-CAP is a nonprofit residential drug and alcohol rehab in Jamaica in Queens, New York. They've been up and running since 1968.

The program offers OASAS licensed residential treatment along with outpatient medical, mental health and addiction services. Buprenorphine therapy, counseling and case support is also available.

The program houses over 190 clients at capacity.

Three Phase Therapeutic Community

J-CAP's residential program is built on the Therapeutic Community model. This means that residents participate actively in their own and each other's treatment rather than receiving care passively.

Treatment moves through three different phases. Orientation is the first and defines your current state and recovery goals. Next is the main treatment that focuses on changing unhealthy behavior through group recovery sessions, individual therapy, and recovery coaching. And then, re entry is how you can prepare for life back in the community.

Residents also share responsibility for running the community itself. You'll partake in housekeeping and meal preparation, as well as weekly toxicology testing tracks progress and compliance.

Treatment at J-CAP is participatory by design, which suits you if you respond to accountability and peer support. It may not be the best fit if you're looking for a more private and clinical setting.

An Alternative to Incarceration Path

J-CAP accepts federal, state and local parolees and probationers referred through sources like the NYS Division of Parole. They offer residential placement as an alternative to incarceration or a next step after release.

The program pairs this with onsite vocational and career counseling, tying recovery directly to reintegration rather than treating it as a separate problem.

Specialized care is available for co-occurring mental health conditions, HIV or AIDS and trauma. Bilingual services are also offered.

J-CAP accepts Medicaid and government funding, private insurance and self payment with reduced cost programs available for residential treatment.
