Hegira Health Community Outreach for Psychiatric Emergencies

Hegira Health's Community Outreach for Psychiatric Emergencies (COPE) is a 24/7 psychiatric crisis and substance use crisis program in Livonia, Michigan.

The nonprofit Hegira Health operates this program and provides walk in evaluation and treatment, 23 hour extended observation, crisis resolution, outpatient treatment and referrals to ongoing care.

COPE services are free to individual users. The Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority funds the program and it's built specifically for adults in Wayne County who have Medicaid, Healthy Michigan, MI Health Link or no insurance at all.

That funding structure shapes everything about how COPE operates in Livonia.

Clinicians complete Pre Admission Reviews on behalf of the county authority at local hospitals, face-to-face or through phone, to determine medical necessity and the least restrictive level of care during a crisis.

Specialized Mobile Crisis Teams

COPE does not wait for people to arrive. Its mobile teams respond around the clock to hospital emergency departments, group homes, clinics and other community settings, and the program fields dedicated sub teams.

These teams are a Post Overdose Rapid Response Team, a Suicide Prevention Team and law enforcement Co Response Teams, plus discreet crisis respite for first responders themselves.

Follow up extends past the crisis event, with stabilization teams providing up to 28 days of support to connect people to outpatient care.

COPE serves adults 18 and older across Wayne County, including people with co occurring substance use and mental health conditions.
