G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center

The G.V. Sonny Montgomery (GVSM) VA Medical Center is a full service medical and psychiatric facility that provides medical care to veterans, active military, and their relatives in Jackson, Mississippi. It’s part of the Jackson VA network and is the main medical facility within that group.

As with other VA facilities, GVSM does provide substance abuse treatment programs in accordance with VA policies. However, specific availability can vary between VA facilities.

The VA provides MAT care for opioid and alcohol use disorders as well as tobacco addiction. The network also addresses opioid detox. In some cases, you might be better off applying to participate in the VA’s residential rehabilitation program to start with your detox goals.

Assisting with Dual Diagnosis Care

For a lot of people, addiction isn’t a stand alone issue. Instead, underlying mental health conditions can be a major influence. For these patients, the VA offers dual diagnosis support which can include medication management and counseling. Self-help groups are an option along with group, individual, and family counseling sessions. There are also specific programs for people returning to combat, women, and veterans who are homeless.

Supportive Aftercare to Maintain Sobriety

GVSM wants you to get sober and stay that way. The facility can help provide access to resources like peer counseling and external support groups. The VA accepts TRICARE, Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance.
