About Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties
The Sheridan Center is a branch of the Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties in Flint, Michigan. This location is just a three-minute walk to the nearest transit stop. They offer counseling for depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, anger management, family crisis, domestic violence, parenting and pregnancy and substance addiction. Counseling is available for children, adolescents and families. They rely on donations to support their programs. Clients report the staff as being respectful, patient, kind and understanding even in the face of hostility.
Counseling for Clients with Substance Use Disorder
M.I.N.D.s is a 12-week cognitive behavioral health program that targets cognitive restructuring and substance use. Clients learn to recognize cognitive distortions, reframe thinking errors, and link thoughts and feelings to actions or addiction.The Thinking Process Program works on cognitive restructuring.
During group sessions participants engage in sessions that provide substance use education and relapse prevention. Focus is placed on making better decisions, motivating change, relapse prevention and biological and genetic links to addiction.
Substance use assessments verify the severity of a substance use disorder. After the assessment a client will be given a list of recommendations perceived as being necessary for treatment.
Mental health outpatient services provide counseling to clients who are struggling with life issues, such as substance use. The counseling aims to help the client find the energy and strength to overcome life challenges.
Resources for Economic Crisis
Their Rapid Rehousing program helps families who are experiencing homelessness procure a permanent residence. You don’t have to meet any preconditions to qualify for these services, such as income, sobriety or employment.
The Homeless Prevention Program assists families who are at risk for being homeless. Assistance may include a short-term hotel stay, rental assistance, utilities assistance, eviction diversion, housing resources and referrals, and moving cost assistance.
