About Birmingham Recovery Center
Birmingham Recovery Center is part of Longleaf Recovery & Wellness and is an outpatient alcohol and drug addiction facility. Clients with a dual diagnosis of substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health concerns can also receive the help they need here.
Clients can start with outpatient detox and move to a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP). Once clients are in recovery, they offer an outpatient aftercare program. The facility is in Birmingham, Alabama, not far from Cahaba Lake and the Cahaba River. They accept most major insurance plans.
Cutting Edge Genetic Testing
Client’s with mental illnesses that contribute to addiction don’t always respond to talk therapy, and may require medication to alleviate their symptoms. Mental health treatment has advanced greatly, and part of that can include genetic testing.
In the past, clients had to try a medication and wait to see if it worked. Now, genetic testing can help the treatment team rule out medications that won’t work for you based on your genetic makeup.
Reducing Symptomatology With Advanced Levels of Care
The facility offers advanced levels of care to reduce symptoms related to anxiety, trauma, and substance use. Treatment modalities include brainspotting and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
These psychotherapy modalities require advanced training and licensing. Brainspotting uses eye positions to process unresolved emotions and memories. EMDR uses tapping or eye movements while recalling traumatic experiences. This helps clients process memories to reduce the emotional impact.
In between your treatment sessions, you can explore all that this area has to offer. Birmingham was prominent in the Civil Rights Movement, and the city today has a diverse cultural scene. The treatment center is less than 20 minutes from the walkable downtown area that features the Civil Rights Institute, museums, and beautiful Linn Park.
