About Turning Winds
Turning Winds is a hybrid residential treatment center and therapeutic boarding school for adolescents ages 13 through 18 who are facing issues with mental health, behavioral health, or substance abuse. They are located in the scenic mountains of Troy, Montana which gives you the ideal environment for focus and recovery.
Holistic and Traditional Therapy for Substance Use
Here, they offer holistic and individualized care that integrates therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and family therapy. They also offer academic support through accredited education that has options for earning credits and getting prepared for college.
Some of their experiential learning includes activities such as service trips, equine therapy, and seasonal outdoor adventures. I like that they also have life skills development that can focus on emotional regulation and communication.
Aside from addiction, they can help with treating self-harm and suicide ideation, as well as anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. They combine therapeutic interventions with academic education so that no student is left behind in their studies while getting the support they need. They have a dual-purpose model that focuses on both therapy and academics.
Service Trips
Something neat about this facility is that they offer adventure and international service trips. This includes international humanitarian trips, seasonal wilderness excursions, and domestic service projects. They're also set in a secluded and rural campus that is tranquil and far from any negative influences.
While many other programs last between 30 and 90 days, this one works with teens for six to 12 months, which allows them to have a deeper healing experience.
