About American Indian Changing Spirits
American Indian Changing Spirits is a substance use treatment program in Long Beach, California for adults 18 and older throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
The program blends clinical care delivered by Behavioral Health Services, Inc. with Native-led cultural and spiritual practices to treat substance use and co-occurring concerns.
The team offers a culturally grounded path to recovery that honors Native traditions while welcoming clients of all races, religions, genders and sexual orientations, including LGBTQIA-2S+ members.
Culturally Rooted Residential Care
The core of the program is 24/7 residential treatment designed for adults seeking a primary substance use disorder setting outside of active withdrawal.
Care is built around Native American and Indigenous traditions with clinical services provided in partnership with a Native American Board of Directors overseeing cultural programming.
Treatment includes counseling, psychoeducation, 12-Step meetings, anger management, relapse prevention, case management and aftercare planning.
Cognitive behavioral therapy and medication-assisted treatment are available alongside harm reduction and peer support to address root causes, symptoms and long-term wellness.
Native Cultural and Spiritual Programming
Cultural healing is woven throughout daily life at the facility, with offerings like sweat lodge ceremonies, talking circles, beading and sewing circles, Native art and gardening with Indigenous plants.
Clients also participate in outings to pow wows and other community events that strengthen cultural connection and support sustained recovery.
The residential program also has ADA accommodations and translation services available.
