About Alaska VA Domiciliary Care Program
The Alaska VA Domiciliary Care Program is a residential treatment service for Veterans in Anchorage, Alaska that is operated by the VA Alaska Healthcare System. The program offers a 50-bed domiciliary setting that combines early recovery support for substance use with employment readiness and life skills training. Veterans at risk of homelessness can access structured programming designed to support stabilization and successful reintegration.
Tailored Treatment Programs
The program includes Early Recovery Skills for Substance Abuse groups with length and frequency tailored to each resident's progress. An Addiction Treatment Program screening is available by phone to connect Veterans with appropriate substance use support within the domiciliary setting.
The Alaska VA Domiciliary Care Program serves Veterans enrolled in VA healthcare, with a focus on those at risk of homelessness. Programming is designed specifically for domiciliary residents though some Alaska Veterans may be able to attend select offerings virtually for more flexibility.
Skills for Independent Living
Beyond addiction recovery groups, residents can participate in Job Club for resume writing, interview skills and job seeking support with CogSMART, a cognitive skills program focused on improving memory and problem-solving. These wraparound supports help Veterans build the tools needed for long-term stability and employment.
The program in Anchorage offers Veterans a structured environment that bridges recovery and rebuilding through peer support skill-building, and employment preparation.
