The Village Family Service Center in North Dakota is launching a new initiative to expand its youth addiction treatment services, with a focus on teens aged 14 to 17 in Fargo.

The Peace Garden State has many natural and outdoor features that can supplement your recovery.

Village Family’s new program adds an option for adolescents, so they can overcome their addictions before entering adulthood. There are also a variety of addiction treatment facilities in North Dakota for adults as well.

Addressing Teen Addiction Treatment Needs in Fargo

For teens who’ve misused substances, this new outpatient addiction treatment program comes at a critical time.

Tonya Sorenson, the clinical supervisor at Village Family Service Center, explained that the initiative fills a gap in the Fargo-Moorhead area. “We were able to establish an adolescent IOP program to help our youth in the community.”

As Sorenson stated, teens had direct input into what services would best serve them. They now have the opportunity to share and connect with fellow peers within group settings.

Participants are encouraged to self-reflect while engaging in educational and prevention-focused activities.

Age-Specific Addiction Treatment for Teens

When it comes to addiction treatment, researchers have found that teens respond differently to it than adults. Hence, the need for a specialized program to better meet their unique developmental needs and properly support them on their recovery journey.

The program is still fresh, having started up just a few weeks ago. It’s since received a Health Innovation Grant from BlueCross/BlueShield of North Dakota Caring Foundation to reach teens across the state.

Up to 12 adolescents are allowed on the program at a time, but the demand for such services is clear as many more are on the waiting list to enroll.
