About YMCA of Honolulu – Nuuanu Branch
The YMCA of Honolulu operates a free adolescent substance abuse treatment program serving O'ahu teens in grades six through 12. The outpatient program has been offering youth focused care since 1962 delivered at participating schools and community sites across the island.
Free Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment for Teens
The YMCA Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program offers outpatient care designed specifically for middle and high school students. Referrals come through school counselors, self referral at participating schools, youth agencies and Family Court, and Juvenile Drug Court.
Treatment combines substance abuse intervention with broader mental health and wellness supports. Teens engage in activities that build problem solving skills and stress relief techniques, positive self affirmations, and identify trusted support systems addressing both immediate substance use concerns and underlying challenges that contribute to risk.
Safe Spaces and Teen Resiliency Programs
The YMCA's Ho'okupa'a safe teen programs offer drop-in supports focused on leadership and academic success, healthy living, and relationship building. Through journaling and drawing, staff check-ins, and skill building activities teens develop social emotional tools and connect with caring adults in a supportive environment.
