About Sobering Center
The Sobering Center, operated by MCCA in Danbury, Connecticut is a 16-bed therapeutic shelter providing non-medical respite for adults with substance use disorder.
The program supports medically and psychiatrically stable individuals through case management, individual counseling, motivational counseling, life skills groups and daily reflections meetings.
Its mission is to serve as a safe, substance-free bridge for people awaiting placement into the next appropriate level of care.
Therapeutic Shelter and Support
The Sobering Center's core focus is offering recovery-based shelter for adults who need stability and structure while connecting to ongoing treatment.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the program welcomes both men and women 18 and older.
Residents follow individualized recovery plans that incorporate intensive outpatient services, wrap-up meetings, life skills groups and recreational activities.
Outside AA, NA and 12 Steps to Faith meetings further reinforce recovery skills and community connection during the stay.
Wraparound Case Management
Case management is central to the Sobering Center experience, helping residents coordinate referrals, aftercare planning and transportation through the Access Line for eligible clients.
The team also connects residents with medical and psychiatric consultation, HIV and STD testing, eye appointments, vocational training, pastoral counseling and partner counseling services.
Case managers can help residents apply for Husky insurance and private insurance options may also be available.
