About Aberdeen Area Youth Regional
Great Plains Area Youth Regional Treatment Center formerly known as Aberdeen Area Youth Regional is a residential addiction treatment program in Mobridge, South Dakota operated by the Indian Health Service.
The center provides Medically Monitored Intensive Inpatient Treatment for American Indian adolescents ages 13 to 17 who are enrolled members of federally recognized tribes including those needing dual diagnosis care.
Its mission is to promote healthy lifestyles and restore balance and harmony in mind, body and spirit for Native youth and their families.
Culturally Grounded Addiction Treatment
The center specializes in residential treatment for adolescents with substance dependence or abuse using an open entry, open exit model.
Individualized treatment planning follows a week of orientation with care rooted in culturally relevant, holistic healing for Native youth.
Programming includes chemical dependency education, relapse prevention, life skills, anger management, coping skills, codependency work and culture education alongside NA, AA and 12 Step introductions.
Medical support is coordinated through the Standing Rock Service Unit IHS hospital and clinics.
Family Healing and Education
Family Days bring residents and loved ones together for 2 to 3 days of therapy and education on family systems, communication, parenting and codependency.
The Chief Gall Alternative Education Program also keeps residents academically engaged through credit recovery, GED preparation, special education services and home-school collaboration.
