Community Healing Center

Gilmore Community Healing Center was a recovery center located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. They were run by the nonprofit network Community Healing Centers.

They used to offer medically monitored detox and short term residential substance use treatment for adults, which included specialized care for pregnant women and mothers.

They closed in August 2025 but moving forward, the location is hoping to offer services for sober living.

Are they open for detox?

News sources confirmed that detox and residential services at the Gilmore location are no longer available after cuts were made to the federal funding that supported inpatient programs.

Patients were transferred to another center of their choosing or supported through completion of care.

The CEO Alisa Otto notes that the location is expected to remain open for recovery housing.

Otto also acknowledged the impact and said, "There's going to be a huge hole now" for people seeking treatment in the region.

What services were offered before closing?

Gilmore was a CARF accredited program that offered 24 hour medically monitored detox for adults 18 and older with alcohol, opiate or other drug dependencies.

They also provided programs for pregnant and postpartum women that included detox for mothers with children.

The parent organization reported having served over 50,000 people across Southwest Michigan in more than 20 years with roughly 700 patients annually in the inpatient substance use department.

The property on Shaffer Street was accessible by public transportation and it's expected to continue as sober living housing under Community Healing Centers. They also run outpatient and peer recovery services at other locations in the Kalamazoo area.
