About Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center
The Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The facility provides comprehensive medical and dental services, as well as treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health issues.
Serving the Native American community, clients can receive culturally sensitive healthcare services. They accept Medicaid, Medicare, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Non-native Americans may also seek treatment at this facility.
Federally Qualified Health and Addiction Treatment Center
The nonprofit organization was established in 1999 to meet the healthcare needs of tribal members in the surrounding Wisconsin tribes. It is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that helps serve vulnerable populations.
The center is conveniently located near I-94. It’s only three miles from beautiful South Shore Park with a beach, playground, and views of downtown.
Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH)
Clients can meet most of their healthcare needs at the center, since it’s an accredited Patient Centered Medical Home. This means from birth to old age, clients receive inpatient, outpatient, primary, and specialty care, including disease management, routine and preventative care, and health screenings.
Additionally, clients can get help with SUD and mental health challenges. They offer outpatient therapy for SUD, mental health, and co-occurring disorders. Clients can attend the AODA (alcohol and other drug abuse) group, and participate in the 12 step group.
Combining Traditional, Cultural, and Evidence Based Treatments
A Wellbriety Circle is a healing support group that combines the 12 step program with traditional Native American principles such as the Medicine Wheel. The program is culturally sensitive and non-judgmental. Other cultural healing programs include the Beading Circle and the Drumming Circle. Drum circles can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation, which can support your addiction recovery.
