About MATER and Family Center

Family Center MATER at Jefferson Health is a Center City Philadelphia program serving pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders.

The program offers therapy, medications for opioid use disorder, peer support, case management and integrated medical and mental health care.

Focused on a mindfulness-based, trauma-responsive and personalized model, Family Center MATER supports both mothers and their children on the path to lasting recovery.

Care for Pregnant and Parenting Women

Family Center MATER specializes in outpatient care designed around the unique needs of mothers navigating substance use disorders.

The program offers regular outpatient, intensive outpatient and long-term outpatient services, along with comprehensive assessments, medication-assisted treatment and aftercare planning.

Sessions blend approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and contingency management with specialized offerings such as Mindfulness-Based Parenting and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention.

This integrated model addresses addiction alongside trauma, co-occurring mental health conditions and the realities of parenting.

Wraparound Family and Maternal Support

Beyond clinical care, Family Center MATER provides child care, care coordination, peer support and vocational or educational guidance to help families build stability.

As part of Jefferson’s MATER continuum, the program also connects clients to My Sister’s Place residential treatment when a higher level of care is needed.
