Choctaw Nation Chi Hullo Li in Talihina, Oklahoma, is a program specifically designed to meet the needs of Choctaw tribal members who are struggling with addiction and substance abuse issues. Participants must be female and 18 years of age or older, have a certificate of degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) and have evidence of physical and mental dysfunction caused by or related to substance abuse or addiction. No one pays for services here. Chi Hullo Li means love, and this program is run with plenty of that.
Culturally Sensitive Treatment
This culturally sensitive program helps Native American women. Their treatment is trauma-informed and evidence-based in a beautiful residential setting. This long-term treatment program is available to women of the Choctaw Nation who live anywhere, whether they have children or not. They learn not only how to live a sober and healthier life for themselves but also learn parenting and life skills that will benefit them, their families and the community.
Cultural integration into the program includes language and significant cultural site visits. It also includes workshops and activities like basket making, beading, traditional cooking and sacred ceremonies.
This program ensures that spiritual and cultural identity are incorporated in the physical and emotional health care. They teach life skills and have educational programs including developing effective parenting skills.
Case Management Services
This is typically a three-month program with case management services. It supports participants from initial contact to needs assessment through aftercare.
Clients can set life goals and receive support and resources to accomplish them. This may be to get their GED, find their dream job or start their own business.
