About Badlands Human Service Center
The Badlands Human Service Center in Dickinson, North Dakota, provides behavioral health services for adults.
The clinic accepts Medicare, Medicaid, military insurance, and private insurance coverage. Clients will not be denied treatment due to inability to pay. A sliding fee schedule is available based on income. The clinic is a division of the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.
Initial Assessment for Clients with Substance Use Disorder
Assessments are provided free as a walk in service Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Clients with acute symptoms are immediately provided for. Depending on the assessment, some clients may be referred to a different behavioral health provider.
Services provided at this location include psychiatry, psychology, addiction counseling, social work, case management, and nursing. Some of these services are contracted through other organizations. A crisis line is always available.
Therapy and Treatment Types at the Clinic
Counseling is offered to individuals, groups, and families. Opioid addictions including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription painkiller addictions are medicated during outpatient detox with medications such as buprenorphine and naltrexone.
Therapy types use the matrix model and include brief intervention, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention. Recovery services are offered to clients during treatment or after completion of treatment. This includes housing services, mentoring and peer support, and overdose education.
The clinic services adults, senior adults, children, and those with disabilities. Other programs include adoption, foster care, food programs, and public health initiatives.
After a session, a client may wish to have a homestyle meal at the Dakota Diner, just beside the clinic. A little over three miles away is Eagles Park where a client can reflect on the day’s session while taking a walk. Also available is a bike path, fishing spots, and picnic areas.
