Outpatient Services for Children and Youth
The Children’s Community Action Team (CAT) offers services to adolescents and young adults ages 11 to 21 who’re at risk for homelessness due to mental health and substance use disorders. Services cover psychiatric care, therapy, case management, tutoring, parenting classes, mentoring, medication management, on-call crisis services, and staff attendance at appointments. Residents of Seminole, Orange, and Osceola counties are eligible.
New Horizons offers services to middle and high school students during school hours at the student’s school. Counseling is offered to individuals, groups, and families five days per week and addresses communication, decision making, coping skills, anger management, and prevention of substance use. The program is free to families and schools.
The Youth! Positively Empowered (Y!PEP) prevention program serves youth ages 13 to 17 who are at risk of HIV, STIs, and substance abuse disorders. The program offers substance use education, HIV and STI education, and peer support. Youth are tested for HIV and Hepatitis C. Services are offered to youth across central Florida.
Outpatient Treatment for All Ages
Outpatient clinical counseling offers short term services for alcohol and substance use, mental health, assessment and screening, and prevention education to Seminole County residents. Outpatient services use cognitive behavioral approaches to counseling for children, adolescents, and adults. Programs for specific groups include Seminole State College students, Healthy Start parents, and veterans. Services can be covered by Medicaid, Medicaid HMOs, contracts with specific organizations, and self pay.
Assessments for Substance Use Offenders
Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities (TASC) works with adult offenders, juvenile offenders, and at risk offenders. The offender is assessed and then referred for the appropriate treatment. A behavioral health index assessment and comprehensive screening for substance misuse and mental health needs are used.
Residents of Orange, Osceola, Brevard, and Seminole Counties can sign up for TASC. Juvenile services are conducted at the Orange County Juvenile Assessment Center.
