About Akeela Ketchikan Gateway Outpatient Substance Use Treatment
Akeela is a behavioral health treatment organization that has clinics throughout Alaska. They used to operate an outpatient clinic in Ketchikan known as the Gateway Center, but this clinic closed in June of 2024. They provided crisis support, day treatment and an intensive outpatient program (IOP).
Akeela accepts Medicaid and private insurance and has a sliding fee scale for those who qualify. There are also grants that fund treatment for those who cannot afford care.
Outpatient Treatment in Ketchikan
The center in Ketchikan provided an intensive outpatient program and general outpatient care that addressed mental health and substance use, including co occurring disorders.
The IOP was 12 to 18 weeks long and included evidence based individual and group counseling. There was a focus on identifying triggers and creating relapse prevention strategies.
There was also a day treatment program for those with serious mental illnesses. This program delivered case management, therapy, medication management and more.
I noticed that they also had telehealth services available, which can be very helpful in a state like Alaska where so many people live remotely and travel can be challenging.
Case Management Services for Recovery
As clients finished the treatment program, staff members would connect them to aftercare resources in their local community. This could include ongoing counseling, support groups, and connections to community resources or social services. These services could help you with housing, employment and more.
