People searching for addiction treatment centers in Las Vegas, Nevada now have an option that does not require walking through a facility door. Desert Hope Treatment Center has launched a virtual intensive outpatient program for Nevada residents which adds at home care to its treatment lineup.

The timing is deliberate. While overdose deaths have dropped significantly across the country Nevada’s numbers have not declined at the same pace.

Local leaders say that disparity points to an unmet need for treatment services throughout the state.

“The sluggish rate that we’re seeing overdoses drop in our state is indicative of the need for additional treatment services” said Dr. Westbrook Kaplan Medical Director at Desert Hope Treatment Center.

“This program brings not only another treatment option to our community but offers flexible at home care for those who are unable or unwilling to attend an in person program.”

Who the Virtual Program Serves

The virtual intensive outpatient program serves several groups including people stepping down from a more intensive level of care, people who cannot take time away from work or family responsibilities, people who live far from a treatment facility, people who prefer privacy and people in early recovery who need structure while living at home.

Prior treatment is not required. Programming runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the program remains open to Nevada residents.

The program delivers sessions through secure live video and includes group therapy, individual counseling and evidence based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.

Psychoeducation teaches participants to recognize relapse warning signs, establish healthy boundaries and manage internal and external triggers. Clinicians can also provide family therapy when appropriate.

“Far too many people who struggle with substance use disorders don’t get the treatment they need” said Ariann Chelli Interim Executive Director. “Time constraints or distance to a treatment center create barriers to getting critical support. We’re thrilled to remove those barriers.”

Understanding the Signs of Addiction

Virtual programs lower the barrier to care but recognizing a problem remains the first step. Addiction often emerges through recurring patterns such as needing more of a substance to achieve the same effect, experiencing withdrawal symptoms after stopping, making unsuccessful attempts to cut back and continuing to use despite damage to relationships work or health.

Behavioral changes such as secrecy shifting social circles and neglecting responsibilities often accompany physical signs.

An intensive outpatient program suits people who need regular structured support but do not require round the clock care. It can provide a transition from residential treatment or serve as an entry point for people whose circumstances make inpatient care impractical.
