About Phoenix House Austin
Phoenix House Texas (PHT) in Austin, Texas, focuses on delivering prevention and education to underserved youth and communities. The center is CARF accredited. Services are provided free to clients due to state funding through HHSC and donations. But they don’t offer therapy or outpatient care.
Addiction Treatment for Youth
The center uses positive prevention tactics to help youth overcome substance use disorders instead of shame, fear, or telling the youth what they aren’t allowed to do. Youth discover their own personal strengths which they can then use to overcome their addiction.
PHT uses VIA Character Strengths which consists of 24 strengths. Six broader categories of strengths are known as virtues. Youths learn how to use their strengths to nurture positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement. Sobriety is impacted by a youngster’s well being including sleep, performance in work and school, and their immune system.
Client reviews state the center offers a support system for those who don’t have one. Parents report being pleased with the care their children received and reported that their children enjoyed the experience.
Many of us worry about our children when we aren’t with them, but the center doesn’t allow youth who don’t follow the rules to stay. Youth enjoy the meals that are prepared. Several graduates of the program stated they were involuntarily placed by a judge and were not interested in getting sober but the program changed their minds.
Community Awareness through Project Empathy
Project Empathy provides workshops and training sessions in communities. These events promote prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance use disorders. The events seek to remove stigmas associated with addiction and substance use disorders.
