About Genesis House
Genesis House is a facility located in Vajello, California, that offers a structured residential treatment program to help those struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD). Their services are available to adult men and women needing long term care in a safe and sober environment.
They accept clients on a self pay basis, but will not turn anyone away based solely on their inability to pay. Genesis House also accepts some patients on Medi-Cal Insurance and can offer discounts based on a sliding scale that takes the individual’s ability to pay into account.
A Structured and Secure Healing Environment
Their treatment program is highly structured and is designed to carefully monitor your progress in 30 day increments. Every day, you’ll get a chance to participate in group discussions and activities designed to keep you engaged in both the healing process and the House’s community. These activities and their times are planned well in advance, and past clients have said that the structure the program provides was instrumental in their healing journey.
Additionally, you’ll have regular meetings with your assigned counselor in which you’ll receive individualized care and attention. They include motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy as a part of their overall strategy to help you set and achieve personal recovery goals.
Combining Care With Responsibility
One of my favorite elements of the Genesis House program is that they try to keep the community in the program as self-sufficient as possible. This means that a part of each day’s schedule is devoted to chores, and they give residents responsibility over things like cooking, cleaning and maintenance duties. These types of activities give you a deeper sense of ownership over your recovery journey as you actively pour some of your effort back into the residence.
To balance this, they also give you time off every day, which you could use for extra rest, to spend time with peers in the house, or to visit nearby attractions. Genesis House is close to the Glen Cove Waterfront Park and the Empress Theatre in Vajello.
