Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Center in Temple, Texas, provides a number of health programs and services for veterans and their families. The center is open 24/7. It’s by Tarrant Park and James Wilson Park is a couple blocks over.
Treatment for Co-occurring Disorders
Mental health care for veterans treats addictions, depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and OCD. Counseling and other support treatments are available for substance use disorder and co-occurring disorders.
Mental health care treatment includes confidential individual counseling sessions and group therapy with your peers. You can receive counseling for marriage and relationship issues, aggressiveness, and self harming behaviors. Substance use is considered a self harming behavior.
Treatment for LGBTQ+ Veterans
Specialized care is offered for LGBTQ+ veterans. In limited circumstances, the veteran can receive hormone therapy. Always offered is mental health care and substance use treatment.
The center offers testing and treatment for HIV and sexually transmitted infections. Psychosocial assessments treat veterans who are considering gender confirming surgeries or hormone therapy.
Treatment for Minority Veterans
Specialized care is offered to minority veterans. In addition to substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment, the center can assist you in overcoming any obstacles you have as a minority. The center will find barriers in relation to accessibility for you and resolve these issues. You’ll be informed of all benefits, services, and programs you have access to as a veteran.
PTSD as a Co-occurring Disorder
For those of us who have experienced traumatic events, PTSD may be among our diagnoses. The center treats PTSD with private counseling, group therapy, and medication. PTSD is a common mental health disorder that co-occurs with substance use disorder. The center will treat the PTSD and substance use disorder concurrently for maximum chances of recovery.
