About Bristlecone Family Resources
Bristlecone Family Resources in Reno, Nevada, has made it their mission to serve the individuals who may not have access to care but are suffering from substance use, gambling issues and psychological challenges. Bristlecone treats substance use with co-occurring mental health disorders.
They are a private nonprofit organization that provides recovery treatment to Northern Nevada, Washoe County and surrounding rural communities. Client prioritization begins with pregnant IV drug users followed by pregnant substance users, IV drug users, veterans and then all others. A suicide and crisis line is always available.
The center is named after the Bristlecone Pine Tree that endures through harsh weather and bad soils. The tree can regenerate itself even from a condition of barely being alive.
Assessment and Treatment Planning
An assessment is available by appointment and requires a referral. The cost is $100 to $150 and may be covered by insurance. A sliding fee scale or grant assistance may be provided based on eligibility requirements. The assessment determines the level of treatment needed and if the client needs to be referred to community resources.
Detox and Residential Care
Their programs are based on the National Institute of Drug Abuse’s 13 Principles of Effective Treatment. Residential treatment lasts four to six weeks and is advised for clients who cannot achieve sobriety in their current environment.
For clients needing detoxification services the social detox model is used. Medical detox will be offered in the near future.
Mobile phones can be used at designated times provided by a counselor. Smoking and vaping are permitted in designated areas.
Flexible Outpatient Care
Their intensive outpatient program (IOP) involves nine hours of treatment per week for two weeks or more. General outpatient treatment is flexible with a wide range of days and hours when clients can attend appointments.
Aftercare and Transitional Living Programs
Transitional living gives clients a sober residence until they are prepared to reenter the community. The cost is $155 per week and includes counseling programs. Clean living and sobriety are required to continue living in this program.
Aftercare programs are available to support clients in their recovery and sobriety. Targeted case management assists clients through community resources and community support programs.
