About Virginia Hospital Center – Rehab Unit
Virginia Hospital Center (VHC) is a healthcare system comprising several hospitals and outpatient clinics, including the psychiatric and addiction services unit of the main hospital in Arlington, Virginia. Services include inpatient detox and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs in day and evening tracks.
The unit serves adult men and women aged 18 and older, including those with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is available. AA meetings and sober living classes are scheduled throughout the week. Adolescents can be referred to their satellite office in Arlington.
VHC accepts most private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and military insurance, such as TRICARE and is accredited by The Joint Commission. The campus is easily accessible and is about seven miles from downtown Arlington.
Sensory Modulation Therapy
One unique treatment I noticed in VHC is sensory modulation therapy. Sensory modulation helps individuals self calm themselves and regulate their emotions. Calm is achieved through music, soft lighting, deep breathing, and yoga. The staff also likes to decorate with lots of greenery and bright colors.
Recognizing Human Potential in Addiction Treatment
VHC’s staff is rigorous in treating all their patients with respect and recognizing the uniqueness and human potential in each individual. Many clients have praised the staff for their kindness and for making them feel welcome.
