About The HOW Center
The HOW Center in Beaumont, Texas, is open to adult men exiting substance use disorder treatment. Additionally, it’s a haven for any man who needs help getting their lives back on track after incarceration or while facing major life issues, including homelessness.
It’s designed as a low cost transitional environment, and anyone without a violent criminal record who can live independently is eligible.
A Peer Controlled Environment
The Center’s three pillars—honesty, open mindedness, and willingness—are directly tied to the democratic nature of the residence. Major decisions about the house are made by the residents as a group, giving everyone a say but also requiring them to accept the decisions made as a group. That means that acceptance, communication, and personal responsibility (three things you develop in addiction treatment) are necessities for a smooth time during your stay.
Supportive Guidance
This transitional home doesn’t provide substance use disorder treatment directly, though staff may be available to help you with building new sobriety skills. Instead, the program exists to support you while you plan your next steps in recovery and build your roadmap. Places like these typically help work toward your goals, be that finding work, connecting with social services, or some other step toward life in sobriety.
