About Passages for Women – Closed
Passages for Women was a residential rehab facility dedicated to helping women overcome chemical dependency. Located near the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham, this particular rehab, at one point, ranked among the best rehab facilities in Houston, Texas.
The program was unique in that it served as a type of aftercare facility to help women reintegrate into independent living after going through a primary residential treatment program. However, instead of providing outpatient care that’s typical of reintegration programs, the Passages system promoted long term healing within a residential community setting.
Community Based Support
The Passages program combined therapeutic models of treatment with a community support system. The community aspect gave women the safety of 24 hour supervision and support from staff and fellow residents. It also provided the opportunity to build strong social skills as women navigated living and receiving treatment together.
The therapy aspects rested heavily on group counseling and group participation in a 12 step program. Each woman would also get individual therapy and counseling to help her manage the personal details of her own recovery journey.
Incorporating Life Skills
A neat element of their program was that it featured opportunities for education, life skills development, and employment development into each resident’s healing journey. Certified professionals would come and teach on topics ranging from the management of personal finances to assertiveness training. The program also encouraged residents to either work or volunteer in the community for at least 24 hours per week.
The facility was close to numerous businesses and resource centers that made working and volunteering possible. It was also near the Westview Drive and Regalia bus stop, making it easier to find transport for those who worked or volunteered a little further from the facility.
