About Montefiore Medical Center – SATP UNIT
Montefiore Medical Center’s Substance Abuse Treatment Program is a long established opioid treatment program providing comprehensive care for adults in the Bronx. The program offers medication assisted treatment or MAT, outpatient counseling, and integrated primary and mental health services to support sustained recovery. With a mission to provide accessible, high quality addiction treatment, SATP meets patients where they are, combining medical expertise with compassionate support.
Comprehensive Opioid Treatment Program
Montefiore SATP specializes in treating opioid use disorder through two dedicated clinics, Unit I and Unit III, which serve over 1,000 adults. The program leverages its academic affiliation with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a multidisciplinary team of addiction psychiatrists, medical providers, and clinicians. Patients receive a comprehensive evaluation covering psychiatric, medical, and social history to inform a personalized care plan.
Treatment integrates FDA approved medications like methadone and buprenorphine with individual and group counseling, utilizing motivational interviewing and relapse prevention techniques. This approach addresses the underlying causes of addiction while managing day to day recovery, helping patients build a stable foundation for long term wellness. The program is recognized for its caring staff and supportive environment.
Integrated Care for Whole Person Health
Understanding that addiction often coexists with other health challenges, SATP provides integrated care for co occurring conditions like HIV, hepatitis C, and mental health disorders. This holistic model ensures that primary care, psychiatric support, and even nutritional or vocational guidance are coordinated within the treatment plan. By addressing the whole person, not just the addiction, the program helps patients achieve better overall health and recovery outcomes.
Walk In Acceptance Available
SATP offers in person outpatient treatment at its two Bronx locations in the Woodlawn and Morris Heights neighborhoods, with walk ins accepted during business hours. The program has been a trusted provider since 1972 and operates as a clinical training site for addiction psychiatry fellows.
