About Healthcare Alternative Systems
Healthcare Alternative Systems (H.A.S.) operates a Transitional Housing Program in Chicago that supports adult men navigating substance use recovery and mental health needs.
The program blends safe housing with integrated addiction treatment, peer mentorship and life skills education for young adults and adults, including men experiencing homelessness.
For years, H.A.S. has delivered culturally responsive care designed to help underserved Chicago communities build lasting recovery.
Transitional Housing and Recovery
The North Milwaukee Avenue site functions as a long-term recovery residence that pairs stable housing with structured substance use treatment.
Residents have an entire team that may include a team leader, recovery coach, housing specialist and peer mentor, creating a culturally sensitive environment focused on whole-person recovery.
Treatment incorporates counseling, family therapy, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, anger management and 12-step support.
Residents also engage in life skills education, job training, employment support and discharge planning to strengthen long-term stability beyond the program.
Peer Recovery and Community Support
A defining feature of the transitional housing program is its peer-driven model, which connects residents with recovery coaches and peer mentors who understand the recovery journey firsthand.
H.A.S. also provides overdose and naloxone education, case management and continuing care to reinforce sustained progress.
