Countermeasures in Bloomington, Illinois provided legal, school mandated, and employee mandated services for adults dealing with substance abuse. They’re closed now.
Services covered here included DUI evaluations, court ordered assessments for substance abuse, substance abuse assessments for schools and employers, investigative reports for the Secretary of State and evaluation updates for license reinstatement hearings. They also reviewed denial letters from the Secretary of State.
Classes and Counseling in Bloomington
Classes were available six days per week, four nights per week and Saturday mornings. Those meeting the federal indigency guidelines received free DUI evaluations and education. Reduced fees were available for others suffering financial hardships. The clinic did not have a waiting list and most clients were seen within a week of calling.
Counseling for dependency and substance use was part of the programs. Relapse prevention and aftercare were available to help clients prevent reoffending. Driver’s risk education and victim impact sessions made driving offenders aware of the risk to themselves and others around them when they drive while intoxicated. Also offered were early intervention services and anger management sessions.
Victim Impact Courses for Substance Users
Victim impact sessions featured victims or offenders who related their story to a group after which the group would have a discussion. It was held once per month for approximately 90 minutes.
DUI Risk Education
DUI offenders were required to attend driver’s risk education for four two hour and 30 minute sessions. This totaled 10 hours. Classes were offered weekly and consisted of groups listening to a lecture on drivers performance while on alcohol and drugs after which there would be a group discussion.
Anger Management and Assertiveness
Anger management was not taught as a domestic violence class but educated clients on anger versus assertiveness, how to forgive, stopping the blame game, and how to manage stress. Clients were taught how to be aware of their anger and how to diffuse it.
